• The 59th Coupe Mondiale, organised by the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes, will be held in Asker, Norway, on October 18 - 22, 2006.
• The Confédération Mondiale de l'Accordéon () organises the yearly Trophée Mondiale de l'Accordéon;

Andorra

• Apart from regular lessons, Harmonia Music School in Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra, also organises summer schools, and an International Accordion Competition, "Gran Premi d' Escaldes-Engordany", the 3rd edition of which will be held September 23 - 26, 2005.

Australia

• The 2004 Australian International Accordion Championships and Festival, organised by the Australian Accordion Teachers Organisation, will be held on May 29-30.

Canada

• The Kimberley International Old Time Accordion Championships in Kimberley B.C., Canada, July 10 - 15, 2006

China

• China Tianjin International Accordion Competition and Festival, organised by the Tianjin Conservatory of Music was held August 25-29, 2002.
• The 8th Chinese International Accordion Competition was held in Bejing, August 10 - 14, 2001

Finland

• The Finnish Accordion Institute publishes CDs, LPs, sheet music, books, etc. It also has an accordion museum, and September 18 - 22, 2001 it organised the first International Lasse Pihlajamaa Competition.

Germany

• In 2003 the categories for the International Wolfgang Jacobi Competition for chamber music of the 20th century are flute/piano and flute/accordion. It will be held 14-16 November at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany. The competition is open for young chamber music ensembles from Europe (age limit: 30 years); the jury includes Hugo Noth. (Currently, the website still refers to the 2002 program).
• International Accordion Competition Klingenthal () in Klingenthal, Germany, May 7 - 14, 2004, for soloists, duos and ensembles.

Italy

• The 3rd National and 2nd Internatioal Premio Citta' di Atri will be held in Atri, Italy, on April 30 and May 1, 2004. The competition is open to accordion players, pianists and keyboard players.
• The City of Castelfidardo () in Italy organises a yearly Premio e Concorso Internazionale di Fisarmonica "Citta' di Castelfidardo". The next one will be held October 8-12, 2003.
• The 2005 edition of the International Composition Competition F. Evangelisti in Rome is a competition for compositions for the Bayan Accordion in chamber music, either solo or in ensemble. The deadline for entry is 15 September 2005; the six finalist scores will be performed by Germano Scurti and by the Alter Ego ensemble on December 10, 2005 during Nuova Consonanza Festival.
   
   
• Fisa...armonie is an international competition held in Trieste, Italy for accordion soloists, concert players and chamber ensembles. The third edition will be held September 23 - 25, 2005.
• The 9th edition of the International Astor Piazzolla Award will be held in Udine, Italy, on October 30th - November 1st, 2002. The competition is open to groups and solists playing music by Astor PIazzolla; the application deadline is October 15th, 2002.
• The International Music Competitions of Val Tidone, Italy, June 7 - 13, 2004 include the "Carlo Civardi" Classical and Varieté Accordion Prize, as well as chamber music and composition competitions in which accordionists can enter. There is also a National Competition on June 5-6, an International Masterclass Project July 28 - August 7, 2004 and A festival running from May to September

Japan

• The 4th JAA International Accordion competition organised by the Japanese Accordion Association, was held in Tokyo on August 26, 2005.

New Zealand

• The New Zealand Accordion Association organises the South Pacific Accordion Championships and the New Zealand Accordion Championships and Festival in Auckland, New Zealand, on June 3 - 5, 2005. They also organise concerts, workshops, socials, etc., and they bring out a newsletter every 2 to 3 months.

Russia

• The 4th Moscow International Competition of Bajan and Accordion Players will be held on December 11-18, 2005 at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow.

Spain

• Hauspoz, the Basque Accordion Association, aims to promote the accordion music, and artists and future artists. They organize "Arrasate Hiria 2001", the 9th International Accordion Competition, 22nd National Competition and 14th Accordion Festival in Arrasate-Mondragón on December 3-8, 2001. Also, they organise an accordion week in July, 2002.
• The first Festival de Acordeón "Ciudad de Salamanca" () was held on November 2--4, 2001, with competitions both for solo accordions and (mixed) ensembles. The 2nd Festival de Acordeón "Ciudad de Salamanca" () will be held November 1--3, 2002.

United Kingdom

• The NAO North West Area Championships will be held on November 27, 2005 in Fleetwood. They are organised by Gina Brannelli (accordions@btinternet.com)
• The NAO UK CHAMPIONSHIPS & FESTIVAL 2006 will be held May 5 - 7, 2006 in Scarborough
• The Tameside Accordion Festival, in Ashton-u-Lyne, near Manchester, UK, was held on 16 November, 2003, and hosted the National Accordion Organisation's North West Area Accordion Championships.

USA

• The Accordion Federation of North America was founded in 1955 to stimulate the general public's interest in the accordion and to improve teaching. It organises a yearly festival in Los Angeles, California. Their 50th Gala Celebration will be held August 12 - 14, 2005. It will include accordion, piano, vocal and dance competitions, concerts and a Frank Marocco seminar.
• The Accordion Teachers Association of Massachusetts sponsors annual New England Music Competition and Festival. The next one is April 2-4, 2004, in Newton, Massachusetts.

• The Internationales Akkordeonfestival Wien () in Vienna, February 25 - March 26, 2006 features many concerts in many locations (many of which are double concerts), as well as workshops (every Wednesday afternoon). Artists include Otto Lechner, Frank Marocco, Riccardo Tesi and many others

Belgium

• The Airbag Festival () was held in Brugge, Belgium from May 15 to July 25, 2004. It included concerts by amongst others Guy Klucevsek, Raul Barbosa and Attwenger, balls, and two exhibitions: "About squeezeboxes and spoon basses" with the collection of Charles Maeyaert (170 items), and "Variétés" about the influence of the accordion on the art and culture of Flanders.

Finland

• The Toholampi Accordion Week in Toholampi, Finland, was last on July 3 - 9, 2005; it will not be held in 2006.

France

• Le Grand Soufflet () is an annual accordion festival in the Ille et Valaine region of Bretony (Rennes and surrounding area), founded by Etienne Grandjean.  workshops, a conference and concerts

Germany

• Carsfeld () in Germany is where the Bandoneon was invented -- on the site of its Tourist Information Bureau, there are a few pages a description and diagrams of the instrument, its history and a few sound clips. Also, there is a yearly Bandoneon Meeting in Carsfeld, which will next be held October 7 - 9, 2005.

Iceland

• The Reykjavik Accordion Festival was last held July 18 - 20, 2003. A CD featuring all the performers has been published.
• The Samband íslenskra harmonikuunnenda () (the Association of Icelandic Accordion Societies?) seems to organise a yearly festival; the last was held in Neskaupstað, July 7 - 10, 2005.

Ireland

• Ennis Trad Festival in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland, November 11 - 15, 2005

Japan

• The Japan Accordion Association publishes a magazine "Accordionist". In 2005 they organised the Accordion Summer Festa 2005 in Tokyo on August 25 - 31; part of the festival was the 4th JAA International Accordion Competition.

The Netherlands

• The River Zydeco Band from Brabant, the Netherlands, with Jo van Strien on Accordion, play only one kind of music: Zydeco! They are also responsible for the yearly Zydeco Zity in Raamsdonkveer, the Netherlands, a.k.a. Zydeco Zity. It will next be held June 16 - 18, 2006
• Festival Het Accordeon () in Deventer, the Netherlands, will next be held February 15 - 19, 2006, with the Klaus Paier Trio, Pigalle 44, James Crabb, Orquesta Tipica OTRA, Deux Accords Diront and Noctambules (if link that doesn't show anything, try the Het Accordeon starting page )

• The Cajun French Music Association is dedicated to promoting Cajun music and culture. Amongst others they organise "Le Cajun" Music Awards and Festival,  in Lafayette, Louisiana.
• Cotati Accordion Festival in Cotati, 40 miles north of San Francisco, will be held on August 26 - 27, 2006. With accordionists performing in just about any style, and with a Lady Of Spain-A-Ring.
• Dance Vortex, A weekend of Cajun, Zydeco, swing & waltz dancing and music in Mentone, AL, will be held on October 6 - 8, 2006.

• The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in San Antonio, Texas, organises a yearly Tejano Conjunto Festival. Besides, they organise Xicano music classes, including beginner and intermediate accordion. They also organise concerts.
• The Annual International Accordion Festival in San Antonio, Texas,
• The  Las Vegas International Accordion Convention, held annually, the biggest accordion extravaganza
• Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration is held each June in Leavenworth, Washington. The next one will be June 22 - 24, 2006, with performers including Gary Blair, the Joe Smiell Family Band, Bernadette Conlon Tony Lovello and Johnny V. Nightly concerts and dancing, daytime jam sessions and competitions plus workshops.
• The Czech Area Concertina Club claims to be the world's largest Chemnitzer concertina club. They meet every 2nd Tuesday of the month. September 16 - 18 they organise Legends of the Concertina, 2005 in Twin Cities and New Prague.
• The Festival International de Louisiane has plenty Cajun and Zydeco music, of course. It will next be held April 26 - 30, 2006.
• The National Accordion Awareness Month -- June -- was established in 1989 by Tom Torriglia, and he seems to be fairly good at generating publicity for the instrument with it.
• The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, with plenty Cajun and Zydeco music of course, will next be held April 28 - May 7, 2006.

• The Rocky Mountain Accordion Celebration is an annual festival in Philipsburg, Montana, last held July 30 - August 1, 2004 It features a weekend of dancing and listening to music, steak barbeques and outdoor pancake breakfasts, concerts, and a parade of homemade pies.
• The 19th (?) annual Santa Barbara French Festival, will be held in Santa Barbara, California on July 15 - 16, 2006, with two days of non-stop entertainment on 3 stages -- including one stage devoted only to accordion music. The next one will be July 14 - 15, 2007.
• The National Accordion Association (formerly the Texas Accordion Association) aims to promote performance of all types of music on the accordion and promote the accordion as a serious musical instrument. They do this amongst others by organising a yearly Convention, with workshops, orchestras and concerts.  Texas. March 10 - 13, 2005. Workshops

Austria

• Kulturlaub is a series of music workshops in Imst, Austria. July 10 - 14, 2006 there are two accordion workshops, one led by Friedrich Lips and one by Roman Pechmann.
• The Steirisches Volksliedwerk (the Styrian Center for Folk Music) organises one-day introductory (diatonic) accordion workshops, in various locations. They've also got a list of "Musikantenstammtische", music sessions.

Belgium

• Every 2nd Tuesday of the month, Boombal Gent organises tune learning sessions ()
• Musique Acoustique organises a (yearly) workshop of acoustic music in Virton, Belgium Filipppo Gambetta teaches diatonic accordion.
• The Volksmuziekgilde and Volksmuziekfederatie organise a yearly Stage voor traditionele muziek (workshop for traditional music) in Gooik, Belgium, with amongst others diatonic accordion workshops for beginners and advanced players.

France

• Rencontres Musicales des Monts Dore () organises various workshops in the French village La Bourboule (region Auvergne), amongst others an accordion week from July 30 - August 4, 2006, with Domi Emorine and Roman Jbanov. Open for every styles, every levels, and all age.
• Artedu organises holiday courses and workshops in France -- mostly drawing and painting, but also an accordion workshop. That one is held July 3 - July 16.
• Diatononic accordionist François Heim () organises regular workshops in Chalap, near Alès.
   
   
• The association La Mission Bretonne/Ti ar Vretoned () organises amongst others diatonic accordion courses and workshops in Paris

Germany

• Bordun e.V. is a society for hurdy gurdy and bagpipes, but their workshops often include the diatonic accordion. Their Blankenheim Easter Workshop, () includes a workshop by Bruno Le Tron for diatonic accordion.
• The  Fürstenecker Folkwerkstatt with amongst others beginners and advanced courses for diatonic accordion (by Karsten Evers and Jan Budweis), a Klezmer course by deishovida's accordionist Lothar Lässer, and a course on Balkan music by Sasenko Prolic (also of deishovida).
• The 43rd International summercourses for new music at the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, Germany, August 5 - 20, 2006, will include a course on interpretation for accordion given by Teodoro Anzellotti

• Eigse Mrs Crotty Festival of Concertina Music in Kilrush, West Clare, Ireland, is a Concertina Summer School & Traditional Music Festival, celebrating the music of Elizabeth Crotty (1885-1960).

Italy

• Claudio Jacomucci is a contemporary solo accordionist and Alexander technique teacher. He has played both solo, in duo Acco Land with Anne Landa, and in various ensembles, and he gives workshops to musicians, performers, and dancers. Amongst others he organises and teaches at an Accordion High School in Rimini () (PDF file) from October 2006 to June 2007, with master classes by Viacheslav Semionov and Matti Rantanen, and workshops and lectures by Luciano Biondini, Roberto Lucanero and Paolo Picchio workshops. United Kingdom

• Karen Tweed organises various Adventures In Music workshops, usually for various instruments and voice: May 5 - 7, 2006 at Cap-A-Pie, Dipton, Northumberland (Karen and Ian Lowthian for accordion); June 6 - 9, 2006 (preceding the Seed weekend, with Karen and John Kirkpatrick); an accordion day for beginners/ low intermediate level on June 9 in Derby; September 9 - 10, 2006 in Tetford, Lincolnshire; and a combined Art and Music course November 25 - December 2, 2006 in Tuscany, Italy, with Karen (accordion/art) and Graham Pirt (voice/art). .
• Folkworks organises a yearly summerschool in Durham, one for youth and one for adults, with workshops for amongst others English concertina, piano accordion and diatonic accordion. The next one is August 7 - 12, 2006. For the adult summer school, squeezebox tutors will be Alistair Anderson for English concertina, Ian Lowthian and Shona Kipling for piano accordion, and Katie Howson for melodeon (D/G); Karen Tweed and Kerry Fletcher will rund a "Band with Dance" group. They also organise a 'workout weekend' in Darlington in October. Apparently the Sage / Folkworks website is somewhat difficult to navigate around, so some of the Folkworks regulars have started the Our Folkworks website, with a list of events at Folkworks and elsewhere, sessions, etc.
• Glow Arts organises a day of master classes during Edinburgh's Ceilidh Culture on Saturday April 22, 2006, including an accordion master class by Martin Green
• Hands on Music organises instrumental workshop weekends in Witney, England, under the direction of Dave Townsend. The workshops include including Concertinas at Witney (last held September 25 - 26, 2004), Melodeons at Witney (November 14 - 15, 2004), and Accordions at Witney (February 19 - 20, 2005). The tutors usually are excellent, both as teachers and as musicians!
• The 16th Harwich Accordionists Annual Residential Orchestral Accordion Week will be held in Harwich, UK, on August 19-23, 2002

USA

• Texas Folklife Resources organises the Accordion Kings Camp and Jamboree on August 26 -- 27, 2000 in Round Rock, Texas, with workshops, organised jams and dance on Saturday evening. Teachers include Geno Delafose (Zydeco), Eva Ybarra (Conjunto), Gary Bertrand (Cajun) and John Dujka (Czech Polka).
• At the Augusta Heritage Center of the Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia, in 2006 there are accordion courses at the Cajun and Creole week, July 9 - 14, "3 levels + Creole", as well as an accordion repair workshop led by Larry Miller; and there is a button accordion workshop at the Irish week, July 23 - 28. • Gaelic Roots, Boston College, MA, June 20-26, 1999, had Jackie Daly teaching accordion in '97, and Anne Conroy Burke and Joe Burke for accordion and Noel Hill for concertina in '98.
   
   
• Noel Hill is an Irish concertina player, originally from County Clare. He organises the "Noel Hill Irish Concertina School" in various locations in the USA. In 2003 they were held in East Durham, New York (August 3 - 8), in Newberg, Oregon (August 10 - 15) and Cincinnati, Ohio (July 27 - August 1).
